Composting 101
Steve and I started a compost bin last week! We picked up some old fence panels from my dad and Steve fashioned them in to a great compost bin. What a way to recycle!
Composting is an easy way to reuse the kitchen and yard scraps and make a nice mixture for your garden. Check out Composting 101 for how to get started. Also check out this page for how to make a simple compost bin out of wooden pallets.
Something else you can do over the cold New England winters, is compost with worms, yes worms! I'm considering getting set up for this. It doesn't take much work and allows you to compost all year round. The Composting 101 link also has information on "vermicomposting".

Great bin! I actually won a compost bin at work through a raffle they had and have been meaning to get going on this! Thanks for (com)posting this! LOL.

Haha Ashlee! Glad to see you comment. If you need any help with your bin, just let me know. I got a great small trash bin with a flip up top and handles at Walmart today. $5. I'll keep it inside next to my trash and just dump my scraps in there and make a weekly trip out to the bin to dump it out.

I have heard of it, but haven't called. Part of what I'd ideally like to do it set up some sort of "system" where if I'm going to pick up something, I can see if you or anyone else needs something from that same place. I picked up local chickens on Sunday and a friend in Dover also requested one. It was much easier for her to go from Dover to Rochester than from Dover to Greenland.
I think I will call on them too. Let me know what you hear.
