Weekly Events: June 8 - June 14

Did everyone have a good weekend? The sun was shining, quite a few local events and yard sales were in full swing. I'll be posting my yard sale finds on Thursday...tease, I know!

Here's what's coming up this week! (Do note as well, I tend to add events to this post through the week. Above my header is now a menu bar and if you click "this weeks events feature" you'll be taken to the latest weekly events post. Hope you like the new look!)

June 8
- Nourishing Your Family From the Inside Out: Earth-friendly Cooking and Wellness Classes.
Super Nourishing Spring Greens! Location: Attrezzi European Marketplace, 78 Market Street, Portsmouth, NH. $40 for each class, materials included


Instructors: Tracey Miller is a certified health & wellness counselor from Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She helps individuals and families eat healthier through personal coaching, nutrition education and cooking classes. Kate Donald is an organic vegetable farmer, and advocate for local, sustainable agriculture. She works with Seacoast Eat Local to help consumers connect with local farmers and locally produced foods.

June 11 - The Lee Farmers' Market and Northwood Farmers Markets are in their second week. Both the Lee and Northwood markets open at 3 pm. Click here for more local markets.

June 12 - Opening day for the North Berwick Farmers' Market.

June 12 - Dirt, Worms, and Super Soil. Meet some hard working worms, discover the wonders of dirt, and start composting with your family this summer. Turn your food scraps into soil and create a small indoor or outdoor compost bin. It's simple, fun, and can help the environment in a big way. 7-8 pm at the Amoskeag Fishways Learning and Visitors Center in Manchester, NH.

June 13
- Market Square Day in downtown Portsmouth, NH. For more info on Market Square Day, see this blog post. Also the weekly Portsmouth Farmers' Market at the city hall parking lot on Jenkins Ave from 8 am - 1 pm.

June 13 - Green Alliance Expo "Green Business in the Community" Haley Gallery, 178 Haley Rd, Kittery ME. 11am-3pm. 20+ local green businesses gather for an afternoon of education and awareness. Solar displays and geothermal presentations will mix with eco-art and composting lessons. A sampling of Green Alliance sustainable entrepreneurs and local environmental non-profits will showcase their goods, services, and programs. Sample free eats from natural local food vendors. June 13th - 14th
- Ever wanted to see a sea star up close? Have you ever seen a barnacle feeding? You can see these things and more at our touch tank, located at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company dock in downtown Portsmouth. Open Saturday and Sundays from 10 am-2 pm every weekend till June 19th when they open daily, 10 am-2 pm.

June 13 - June 28th - 9th Annual Sand Sculpting Competition. Come watch 15 Masters of the Sand Sculpture Universe compete for over $15,000.00 in prize money. Awards Saturday night, June 20, 8 p.m. at the Seashell Stage. Followed by a Fireworks shoot at 9:30

The Barrington's 2nd Open Farm Tour Day is coming up June 28th with over 7 Barrington farms participating. More info to come, just mark it on your calendar, it'll be worth it!
