NH Eat Local Month 2009

Photobucket
August is officially the "NH Eat Local Month" here in the Granite State!

How exiting as we get to stretch ourselves to visit a farmers' market for the first time, or maybe try out a different market. You could also take the family to the farm to see where your food is produced. Or maybe you have a garden in your backyard, you could share some of the harvest with your neighbors. August is sure to be a fun-packed month of eating local!

These are the themes for the month:
The first week’s theme, Getting Started with Farmers’ Markets, coincides with National Farmers Market Week and will feature pointers on how to find local foods.

Week two, Farmily to the Farm, will highlight activities to get families to farms — such as PYO, tours, and more.

Sharing the Harvest, the theme for the third week, will stress ways to reach out to help the less fortunate obtain fresh, healthy, locally produced food–gleaning activities, donating extra produce, promoting farmers market WIC coupons, etc.

Week four will focus on Thinking Ahead, providing information on food preservation, season extension, and traditional seasonal menu planning.

Seacoast Eat Local has set up a new page on their website specifically for all the events surrounding the August 2009 NH Eat Local month. Be sure to visit NH Eat Local Month.
