Weekly Events: June 1 - June 7

What a crazy first week of June we have lining up. So many activities, classes and things to do in the month of June! It's shaping up to be a fun month!

Week of June 1st - One Local Summer 2009 eat local challenge kicks off!

Almost all the famers' markets will be open by weeks end as well. Please be aware that the Dover market is in a new location at the parking lot of The Herbal Path off Central Ave. It's still on

June 1 - June 7 - Take a Bite Out of Dover 2009 restaurant week.

June 1 - Cheesemaking Class. Due to the overwhelming demand for the last class, another class has been scheduled! Sign up quickly or at least let your interest be know for potential future classes. (Thanks Seacoast Eat Local for the heads up!)
Learn to make your own unprocessed, local cheese right at home. Through a lecture and hands-on demonstrations, this introduction to home cheesemaking will get you started on making ricotta and mozzarella, and may include yogurt and goat cheese if time allows. Basic equipment and procedures will be covered. This one-night workshop by Debra Kam and Lenore Smith will be held on Monday, June 1, from 6–9 p.m. Course fee is $30. Supplies included.

To register, call Joyce at the adult ed office at 775-8457 or stop by the office 8:30 AM -3:00 PM M-F at 30 Linden Street (old Exeter High School), entrance D, room 137.

June 4 - Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Collection for Nashua area residents from 3 - 7 pm at the Nashua Public Works Garage.

My personal soap box: Some items considered hazardous waste include: bathroom cleaner, disinfectants, drain cleaners, rug cleaner, oven cleaner and bleach. If these things can only be disposed of once a year and are considered a hazard, why expose your family to them at all? I am an Independent Distributor for Shaklee, a cleaner, greener, safer, smarter cleaning solution that really works and is easy to use!

June 6 - Seacoast Local Festival. Seacoast Buy Local will be hosting the 4th annual Seacoast Local Festival at the Bridge St. Lot, corner of Congress and Islington Streets, Portsmouth from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday.
Join us for a rollicking good time at the fourth annual non-profit street fair, featuring live local music, an kids' art project, and more than 20 local non-profits with interactive activities for all.
June 7 - The Police Department's is holding it's third annual Mounted Patrol Unit Open House on Sunday at the horse stables on Cocheco Street. The rain or shine event is to take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and youngsters will have a chance to ride the three horses named Monty, TJ or Blackjack. The event featured stick horse races, a rainbow chicken egg hunt in the hay loft and a bake sale and raffles. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Dover Mounted Patrol.
